find out processor 32 bit or 64 bit

October 26, 2011

I came across this blog entry that helped:

http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-how-to-find-if-processor-is-64-bit-or-not/

basically the uname -a command should do it. if you see a x86_64 it is a 64 bit. if you don’t it is 32 bit.

(reading through man of uname, it seems like i can do a uname -m to simply get the hardware directly)
